INTERVIEW:

In one of the homes , we found three very weak dogs. Mum said that we should leave them but I pleaded to her not to but she would not listen to me. Since I loved dogs so much, I could not hold back the tears and when she saw me crying she gave in to my request. I was so happy when we took the dogs back home and fed them and took care of them until they fully recovered.

Describe your childhood when you were growing up from 8 to 13 years old.

Being born in 1988 in Eastern part of Africa in a country called Kenya was good, since there were so many things happening at that time in the country. I was brought up in the Rift Valley province in a town called Njoro. During that time people were still settling in new pieces of land so there was so much clearing that was being done .Rivers were clean and there ware enough rains because the forests were still many .We used to swim in rivers and collect firewood in the forests. Life was very good because of the green environment and the good harvests we had so no one slept hungry.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

There are many lessons I learnt when I was younger but the major one is about environment conservation. Since every adult during the time I was growing up was only interested in acquiring land they cleared almost every tree. Due to that, the country is no longer the same as we experience droughts and people sleep hungry, some even die of hunger. Many rivers dried up and the rest are full of dirty water. The animals in forests are becoming extinct. If only we had conserved our environment we could be having the same good life.

What is your most memorable moment?

There was this time when there were tribal clashes in our province and most of the people were chased out of their homes and the homes were burnt down. After many days the clashes came to an end and the people whose houses were not burnt down came back home , luckily , we were among them. When we got home there were so many corpses of dogs and cats since they had no one left to take care of them. After making sure everything was alright, we went to see the burnt homes.

What is your environmental advocacy?

Most of the species extinctions from 1000 AD to 2000 AD are due to human activities, in particular, destruction of plant and animal habitats. Raised rates of extinction are being driven by human consumption of organic resources, especially related to tropical forests destruction. While most of the species that are becoming extinct are not food species, their biomass is converted into human food when their habitat is transformed into pasture, cropland, and orchards. It is estimated that more than a third of the Earth's biomass is tied up in only the few species that represent humans, livestock and crops. Because an ecosystem decreases in stability as its species are made extinct, these studies warn that the global ecosystem is destined for collapse if it is further reduced in complexity. Factors contributing to loss of biodiversity are: overpopulation, deforestation, pollution (air pollution, water pollution, soil contamination) and global warming or climate change, driven by human activity. These factors while all stemming from overpopulation; produce a cumulative impact upon biodiversity.
