INTERVIEW
Tell us about your job/studies
I’m currently in the last semester of my Masters Degree in Applied Commerce. I’m also studying dance and music at the same time. I’m involved in many community activities and am working on my own fashion designer label.
How are you preparing for Miss World in South Africa?
I’m educating myself about South Africa apart from what I already know about it and am excited about the country and the culture. It is a dream come true for me to visit the land that Nelson Mandela calls home whom I respect so much for his strength of character. In the sense of the competition, I’m preparing myself in every way imaginable from wardrobe to grooming.
What's your daily routine?
Firstly, my daily routine has changed dramatically in preparation for Miss World. My daily routine right now includes working out at the gym in the morning, dance lessons, meditation and also time with family over a meal.
How do you feel about travelling to South Africa?
I’m absolutely thrilled; it’s a place I’ve always wanted to visit. It is a country full of richness in its culture. The people are known to be hospitable, friendly and laid back and I can’t wait to experience that first hand. Sri Lankans also have close ties with South Africa through our love for cricket.
Which elements of Miss World are you most looking forward to?
The experience as a whole would be novel and exciting for me but particularly meeting fellow contestants from different nations and the diversity of their cultures. I will get a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience over a 100 cultures at one time. I’m also looking forward to the wildlife in South Africa. There is no better place in the world for a safari!
What do you think are you qualities that youwill bring to the competition?
I’m a strong, focused, intelligent woman of substance and I have immense compassion for others and I will certainly bring those qualities to the competition.
What individual talents will seperate you from the other contestants?
I define myself as a woman who holds more than mere beauty as her asset. I have a lot of depth and substance to who I am and I’ve achieved this through hardship and hard work. I truly believe this would separate me from the other contestants. I’m also a great dancer and have a talent for singing.
What is your favourite landmark?
Taj Mahal in India is my favourite landmark. It has a beautiful story of a husband’s undying love for his wife and to me it epitomizes romance and love.
What is the one thing you cannot live without?
Music….I think the world would be a really dull place without music and I certainly find it a healing, meditative thing to have in my life.
Who do you most admire?
My mother. Bringing me up as a single parent, she also balanced her career, family and her hobbies and led the way for me to become a strong independent woman like herself.
Who has inspired you most in your life?
Many people have inspired me at many levels in my life. Being an only child, I grew up with many characters from the books I read, whether they be autobiographies or fiction. Princess Diana has always held a special place in my heart because being a princess she held within her such humility and compassion for others.
